The Sound of Music takes place in Salzburg, Austria

The Sound of Music Based on the memoir of Maria von Trapp, The Story of the Trapp Family Singers. Some details from the von Trapp family were altered for the musical. The real Maria was employed as a tutor. The musical portrays her as a governess. The names and ages of the children were changed. The von Trapps stayed in Austria for several years after Georg & Maria were married, whereas the musical has them escaping shortly after the wedding.
