War on cancer , year 40: who’s winning? Otis Brawley War on cancer , year 40: who’s winning? The claim of the war What’s now War in the future Conclusion

The claim of the war Increasing death rate

The National Cancer Act, December 23, 1971 Because of this problem. In 1971, people get together to sign the cancer act. This is the beginning of the war with cancer.

What’s cancer? However, what’s cancer? At that time, 18 centuries, a pathologist, Karl Virchow, define the cancer profile.

He took biopsy from the patient, then used light microscope to examine it. This picture shows the cancer profile he found. After his discovery, we use this profile to find cancer, and fight with them.

What’s the war now? Then, you may ask, what’s the war now? Do we win the war? This is the US cancer death rate from 1900 to 2005. We can find that since 1991, the US cancer death rate started to decrease.

What’s the war now? 20% ↓ Risk of Death in USA Breast cancer 36% ↓ Also, since 1991, the risk death rate in USA has deceased 20%. For the breast cancer, it has lowed 36%. For colon cancer, it has lowed 35%. Breast cancer 36% ↓ Colon cancer 35% ↓
