Hamlet is away at college Hamlet is away at college. It is his junior year and life couldn't be better. It’s Monday night: 2:00 a.m. His mom texts him the following message: CALL ME NOW!! IT'S AN EMERGENCY!! Jolted awake by adrenaline, he calls her. She answers the phone but her sobs are so loud Hamlet can barely understand what she is saying. Finally, he is able to make out the words "Your father is dead..."

Unfortunately, this semester Hamlet is taking one of the most difficult courses he has had so far, and his professor is really stern. When Hamlet tells him about his father, the professor gives his sympathy but says that Hamlet still needs to take the final next Friday or retake the course. He is forced to miss his dad's funeral.

It has been two weeks since his father's death; he is completely devastated and heading home for break. He loads up the car and drives home. When he gets home, he hugs his mom for a long time but senses something is wrong. She's not upset. At least not as upset as she should be. Then he notices she is wearing a wedding ring on her finger. A brand new wedding ring.
