Citizen Driven IoT Innovation for Disaster Relief SYNOPSIS Scepter is a smart, self-sustainable lamp pole which provides long range wireless communication, lights and charging port to assist in post disaster relief. CONCEIVE Understand user requirements Provides initial concept and key features DESIGN Choice of hardware and/or software Design solution To list down key points for each of stages of Conceive, Design, Implement and Operate. Include company name if applicable. IMPLEMENT Build prototype and integrate Testing/troubleshooting, Demo and prepare SOP OPERATE Operate prototype and deploy Name of students: Woon Jun Shen, Li Desheng, Eugene Loh Course and Class: DEEE/FT/3A/60 SP Liaison officer’s name: Mr Teo Shin Jen

CONCEIVE What are the users’ needs Light, communication, electricity for charging ports, and beacon to seek help from the rescue team What features will help meet these needs to achieve the functional goals of the project? Proposed features: Long range wireless communication Light Charging ports GPS Location Solar-powered Emergency button to seek help Speaker to update real time news and sending alert To include on this slide, more details on the Conceive stage. The example used here to illustrate the CDIO stages is that of a remote monitoring system that includes both hardware and software. This may not be applicable to all projects. Our first concept for communication

DESIGN Choice of hardware and/or software, including standards NodeMCU, Web Server, LED, Long Range and Low Powered Radio Frequency Module (LoRa), Solar Panel, Charge Controller, SLA Battery, LCD Display, Twitter, USB Charging Port, Arduino IDE, 3D Printing and TinkerCad Systems Integration (How does the above work together?) There are two part of Scepter which is Transmitter and Receiver. The NodeMCU is connected with the LoRa, LCD and LED. At the Transmitter Tower, NodeMCU will be configured as an Access Point for users to connect to and to send message and/or switch on/off the LED via Web Server. When the message is sent, it will be sent over to the Receiver Tower. At the Receiver Tower, NodeMCU will receive the message and display it at the LCD Display. The NodeMCU will also upload the messages to Twitter via Wi-Fi. To include on this slide, more details on the Design stage. The example used here to illustrate the CDIO stages is that of a remote monitoring system that includes both hardware and software. This may not be applicable to all projects. One or more suitable images for DESIGN stage

IMPLEMENT List of activities carried out in implement stage Testing out the distance of communication List of activities carried out in implement stage Planning the schedule, Sourcing of hardware, Programming NodeMCU, Assembly and testing, Troubleshooting and verifying, Testing out the distance of communication, Refining the prototype, Designing the prototype and 3D printing, Demo and presentation of prototype, Writing the operating procedures and troubleshooting guide on Instructables Designing the prototype and 3D print it Before and after of the prototype To include on this slide, more details on the IMPLEMENT stage. The example used here to illustrate the CDIO stages is that of a remote monitoring system that includes both hardware and software. This may not be applicable to all projects.

OPERATE List of activities carried out in operate stage e.g. Use of project and actual deployment on the plant floor Training for staff on using the project To include on this slide, more details on the OPERATE stage. The example used here to illustrate the CDIO stages is that of a remote monitoring system that includes both hardware and software. This may not be applicable to all projects. Benefits How has the project benefit the users? Able to seek help by sending messages Able to charge up their devices Inform their family members that they are safe during disaster event Receive light for vision especially during the night
