Montserrat – GCSE Exam Questions Assessment Guidelines Use this presentation to make yourself aware of what to expect in your exam lesson

Learning objectives To Assess our work on Montserrat Gain experience of GCSE questions Earn a GCSE grade that can be shared with your upper schools.

You need: Writing equipment including: Pen, Pencil, Ruler An exam paper To listen to instructions. To read the questions.

Use both the maps on the insert (Fig 1a and Fig 1b). Use them for evidence and to describe locations.

What do the questions mean? Describe What? When? Where? Who? Use Evidence Effects: What happened because something occurred. Location, Places, Dates, Effects

What do the questions mean? EXPLAIN WHY? HOW? Cause: Why something happened? Use diagrams and give examples. Name places, plate boundaries and Features to explain why or how things happen in a particular place.

What do the questions mean? DISTRIBUTION The spread or pattern Link this to other information shown by the maps E.g. Earthquakes occur along the plate boundaries. They are clustered around…(Give examples of the places)

What do the questions mean? HUMAN FEATURES Places and characteristics of a place made by people. E.g. towns, airports, roads PHYSICAL FEATURES Natural characteristics e.g. Hills, mountains, rivers, volcanoes

What do the questions mean? JUSTIFY Explain your answer: WHY? Why is one thing more important than another? Why is it a priority?

Hints… Give detailed answers. Make a point, give evidence, explanation, explore or link ideas for every mark available in the question. Use the map inserts to help you. Use the maps and their keys to help you identify information. E.g. The magnitude of earthquakes and location in relation to other places. Use compass directions to show directions.
