C.L.I.L. Maths/English Fractions: Problem Solving

Now we are going to explain the first type of problem (A is a fraction of B and I know B) and show you our digital product

Instructions : first read the problem carefully identify the type of fraction then build a model label the targets in the work area

Problem number 1 3 Students have to buy a school book and the price is £60.The first student pays 1/6 (one-sixth)of the price. The second student pays 1/3 (one- third) of the price. The third student pays 1/2 (one-half) of the price. How much does each student spend?

Data: £ 60 = Price of the book 1/6 = Fraction paid by the 1st student 1/2 = Fraction paid by the 2nd student 1/3 = Fraction paid by the 3rd student ? = How much does each student spend

Solution: = £ 60 1st student =£ 60 = £ 10 2nd student 60 : 3 = = £ 20 The total price = £ 60 1st student =£ 60 60 : 6 = = £ 10 2nd student = £ 60 60 : 3 = = £ 20 3rd student = £ 60 60 : 2 = = £ 30 10 + 20 + 30 = £ 60
