Hieroglyphics Definition: The ancient Egyptian writing system that used picture symbols. Sentence: Egyptian hieroglyphics were one of the world’s writing systems.
Papyrus Definition : A long lasting paper, paper like material made from reeds that the ancient Egyptians used to write on. Sentence: The Egyptians made papyrus by pressing layers of reeds together and pounding them into sheets.
Rosetta Stone Definition: A huge stone slab inscribed with hieroglyphics, Greek, and a later form of Egyptian that allowed historians to understand Egyptian writing. Sentence: In addition to the hieroglyphics, the Rosetta Stone had text in Greek and later formed of Egyptian.
Sphinxes Definition: An imaginary creature with a human head and the body of a lion that was often shown on Egyptian statues. Sentence: Rows of stone sphinxes-imaginary creatures with the body of a lion and the head of other animals or humans- lined the path leading to the entrance.
Definition: A tall, pointed, four-sided pillar in ancient Egypt. Obelisk Definition: A tall, pointed, four-sided pillar in ancient Egypt. Sentence: On either side of the gate might stand an obelisk, a tall, pointed, four-sided pillar that is pointed on top.
King Tutankhamen or King Tut Definition: Egyptian pharaoh, he died while still a young king. The discovery of his tomb in 1922 has taught archaeologists much about Egyptian culture. Sentence: King Tut's treasures have taught us much about Egyptian burial and beliefs.
