Bell Work List the people in our community that help others who live here. Agenda: Ecosystems Lesson #1 Assignment

Q1: What is an example of a biotic factor? air dirt grass water S.C.8.3.3.d DOK 1

Q2: What is a renewable resource? energy from coal energy from fossil fuels energy that can be recycled energy than can be used only once SC8.4.2.h DOK 2

Mathematics Booster What is the difference between the mass on the balance from Day 5 to the mass on the digital scale. (Mass from the triple beam balance = 265.8g) Point out the area for showing their work and for their answers. Also have students reflect upon their correctness and what they can do in the future when facing a similar problem.

Greek and Latin Roots Greek/Latin Meaning pop- people com- together, common eco- environment, house -ology study of, science of photo- light Have students write the meaning of each root in the appropriate spot in their BLAM books. We’ll work with this set of roots, using strategies from Marzano’s Six Step Vocabulary, for two weeks. Then we’ll have another set of roots.

Objectives I will know (knowledge): I will be able to (skill): the levels of organization within an ecosystem. I will be able to (skill): Identify the needs that must be met by an organism’s surroundings. Identify biotic and abiotic parts of a habitat.

Bell Work Answer List the people in our community that help others who live here. Answer…

A1: What is an example of a biotic factor? A. air Air is non-living which is abiotic. B. dirt Dirt is non-living which is abiotic. C. grass Grass is a living organism which is biotic. D. water Water is non-living which is abiotic. S.C.8.3.3.d DOK 1

A2: What is a renewable resource? energy from coal This is a nonrenewable resource. energy from fossil fuels energy that can be recycled This is a renewable resource. energy than can be used only once SC8.4.2.h DOK 2

Mathematics Booster What is the difference between the mass on the balance from Day 5 to the mass on the digital scale. (Mass from the triple beam balance = 265.8g) Mass from the Digital scale = 130.0g 265.8 g – 130.0 g = 135.8 g Point out the area for showing their work and for their answers. Also have students reflect upon their correctness and what they can do in the future when facing a similar problem.

Open your textbooks to page 310. Get out your lined sheet of paper.
