WHAT CAN YOU DO TO HELP YOUR CHILD HAVE A SUCCESSFUL YEAR? Agendas: Check your child’s agenda or my website regularly to see that assignments are being completed and that test preparation is taking place. Backpacks: Check your child’s backpack regularly for organization and materials. Check to see if your child has their assignments done and in their backpack ready to turn in. Give practice tests at home Check your child’s grade through Powerschool regularly – if you see an “M” it means the assignment is missing. They can turn it in with a late pass or make up the work if they were absent when it was due. Pearson Power school app code: DRMT

SHOULD YOU EDIT YOUR CHILD’S WRITING? Please avoid changing your child’s writing. Please guide them and give them some ideas and feedback, but let the changes be in their own words. If you change the writing I will not know your child’s true abilities and it won’t allow me to address their weaknesses. Final copies will be typed. Please use 12 pt. font, Times New Roman, double space, black ink. Final copy guidelines are in the Sutter Style Guide. Many essays are assigned via Google classroom and submitted online. Most of our writing will be done in class, but the final copy typing may occasionally be done at home.

GRADES Grades are updated as assignments and tests are completed. My grades are not weighted. I use total points to calculate grades. There may not be items added each week depending on our progress with formative and summative assignments and assessments. Essays will take at least one week to grade since I will have 180 to read. Three late passes were given out and can be used for late homework. Late work will not be accepted without a late pass. Late passed cannot be used for major projects. Students have two days for each day absent to make up anything they missed. It is the responsibility of the student to arrange make up tests and turn in missing work due to absences. Homework is posted every Monday on my website for the week. Students are instructed to write in their agendas every Monday. IF changes are made during the week, I alert the students to make the change.

WHAT WILL WE BE DOING THIS YEAR? The Common Core State Standards will be taught using a variety of sources including the following: Studysync ELA adopted curriculum – online and consumable workbook Noredink.com for grammar review and lessons Greek and Latin Root Words – Word Within a Word program 6th Grade approved novels – Novels will be read at home for the most part.
