Applying for Financial Aid FAFSA fafsa.ed.gov UB’s federal school code is 002837 File early and include parental/guardian information for consideration for additional financial aid programs

HUB To Do List Email Communication How to stay informed: We may determine that additional steps are needed to determine your eligibility after reviewing your 2017-2018 FAFSA. Items may be added to your To Do List in your HUB student center. If so, a Financial Aid Missing Information Notification will be emailed to you. Financial aid cannot be disbursed toward the cost listed on your student account until all items on the To Do List are completed. If no further information is required, you will receive a financial aid award notification.

Cost of Attendance Based off of living status as off campus Direct costs: university charges on student eBill Tuition Fees Room & Board (on-campus students) Indirect costs: reasonable calculation of expenses you may incur while enrolled (not charged by the university) Living allowance (commuter and off campus students) Books/supplies Personal Transportation

Dental School Cost of Attendance Budgets available on the financial aid website: financialaid.buffalo.edu/costs/dental These are subject to change. COA is determined by the dental school and the Office of Financial Aid and covers only 9.5 months. Be sure to budget accordingly.

Cost of Attendance Adjustments Budget adjustments may be possible and are determined on a case- by-case basis We anticipate a potential increase to the health insurance charge Plan to meet with a financial aid advisor during the academic year

Types of Aid

Direct Unsubsidized Loan Maximum is $40,500 for academic year Current Fixed Interest Rate is 5.31% Deferred payments until 6 months after graduation Must completed Direct Loan Entrance Counseling and E-Master Promissory Note at studentloans.gov

Graduate Plus Loans May borrow up to the cost of attendance less other financial aid awarded Fixed interest rate of 6.31% Credit Check required Separate Promissory note and entrance counseling session is required at studentloans.gov Deferred payments until 6 months after graduation

Health Professions Loan File the FAFSA early (typically by March 1) Must provide parental information on the FAFSA Subsidized with a 5% interest rate, 12 month grace period Income verification may be required Required paperwork must be completed each semester

Economically Disadvantaged First Professional Study Program (EDPS) To be considered for this partial tuition waiver, a student must: Be enrolled in the Dental school full time Have filed the FAFSA early Be a U.S. Citizen or eligible non-citizen Be a New York State resident Have demonstrated exceptional financial need Meet income requirements based on your family size Must include parent information on the FAFSA Students will be notified if they are considered eligible and will be required to submit documents for verification

Scholarships Graduate fellowships and scholarships as well as community scholarship information can be found at our website: financialaid.buffalo.edu/aid/scholarships/ The School of Dental Medicine offers approximately 20 different scholarships to 2nd, 3rd, and 4th year students Based on need, academic achievement, and/or service
