Junior Elementary Battle of the Books Battle of the Books—Competitive reading club/team. Goes to state level on the middle school level; Regional for elementary 4th/5th grades; Preparatory for 2nd/3rd grade

What? When? Competitive book club that meets Thursdays after school Quiz-bowl type of atmosphere with verty detailed questions about the JEBOB books JEBOB list has books above and on each grade level; students read books from “their” lists April 6, April 20, April 27, May 4, May 11 in the media center 3:00-4:00pm Year-end competition: Tentative May 18

Who? 2nd/3rd graders at Vienna that are VORACIOUS readers that genuinely love to read! Independent, AVID readers Students choose books off respective JEBOB lists Read each book 2-3 times to become an expert THIS IS NOT READING RECOVERY or TUTORING. THIS IS FOR INDEPENDENT, AVID READERS!

How? Students commit to reading 4+ books off their lists Students attend practices Students answer questions about books off list Students become “experts” by reading each book 2-3 times All questions in form of: “In what book did……” Answers are always book title and book author Knows books inside and out (including quotes!) Come ready to practice Groups of students will be separated in to teams of 6 to compete against eachother Points awarded (2 for title; 1 for author) Sometime in May, all JEBOB teams will compete in a tournament
