The face of sex abuse… What can you do?
Activity: Get into your groups and create 3 lists: All should have options for help for victims of sex abuse, but one should be for a child, one for a teenager and one for an adult.
Child: -Tell adult, teacher, parent… -Have adult call police Teenager: -Tell adult, teacher, parent, etc. -Call police Adult: Who’s job is it to teach children what sex abuse is? What about teenagers?
What happens if we don’t teach about it… We must stop sex abuse from happening, and especially from continuing! We need to make children aware of what is right and wrong! But how do we do that? Ideas?
Activity: Imagine you are a parent sending your child into this scary world every day with sexual predators. Work with a partner to come up with a way to address sex abuse with a 1st or 2nd grader (6-8 yrs old). Come up with a small “safety” card they can keep in their backpack that would allow a parent to know if sex abuse is happening. Remember, most children wouldn’t know it is happening, so the idea is to have a way you can check as a parent without asking questions they may not understand. Use key phrases, pictures, check boxes, etc.
