Paul 45 mins to make the links to the LSCB roles in relation to the partnership & the business plan Key issues: What changes do the LSCB want to see? How can SoS contribute to more effective cross agency working? How does the LSCB understand the contribution of SoS? How Rutland be supported?

Background for Leicestershire Children & Family Services The Local Authority Journey Involvement in the Innovations Project

Rationale: What changes did we want to see: A clear methodology for working with families – harnessing their strengths as well as identifying concerns/dangers/worries Being explicit and consistent in the way we make decisions – transparency of analysis, strong planning and shared goals Working with families to help them change – not doing to families Strong voice of child and parents affecting work Social workers as agents of change – engaging despite denial… Working with compassion - less punitive in our approach Congruence with our ambition to become a learning organisation

The story so far Significant evidence of voice Feedback from peer review Staff morale – turnover by comparison to other LAs Parent evaluations Feedback from parents & partners as witnesses

Feedback on 183 conferences Of the Parents surveyed: Of the Professionals surveyed: 93% understood the concerns 84% understood the strengths in the family 68% thought the family understood the changes that were needed 86% knew what they needed to do next 87% made an effective contribution to the outcome and plan 82% felt prepared for conference 86% were able to take a full & active role 89% understood what people were worried about 86% understood what needed to happen for the plan to end

Next Steps: Building our own network of support The LSCB is part of our network of support where we want to co-construct with partners a plan for the future that is based on a strong asset/strengths based way of working which focuses on the principles of good practice. What needs to happen to secure the engagement of partners – so that they can contribute well in new ways of working and develop alongside the LA? How do we ensure that our policy and procedures support the practice we want to see? Hand over to Terry
