Center for Undergraduate Research Fall 2017 Panther Pipelines: Discovery Day Poster Submission Guidelines The Virginia Union University (VUU) Center for Undergraduate Research (CUR) will host its 3rd annual Panther Pipelines: Discovery Day on Wednesday, October 25, 2017 at 4pm in the Claude G. Perkins Living and Learning Center. All persons interested in presenting a research or creative inquiry project should submit the Panther Pipelines: Discovery Day Poster Template using our online application [insert link]. All posters should include the following information (see the poster template for detailed instructions): A clear and concise statement of the research question/creative inquiry topic and the purpose Statement of research or creative inquiry methods Results/preliminary results/anticipated results of the research/creative inquiry project Conclusions All completed research or creative inquiry projects should use the “Complete Research/Creative Inquiry Project” template (slide two). All persons presenting a research/creative inquiry project proposal should use the “Potential Research/ Creative Inquiry Project” template (slide three). All presenters seeking to recruit undergraduate student researchers please use the corresponding template (slide four). All posters should be submitted using the online application by 5pm on Monday, October 2, 2017  The CUR will guarantee printing services for all posters submitted on or before Friday, September 22, 2017. Early submission is strongly encouraged. Participants will be notified via e-mail on Friday, October 6, 2017 regarding the acceptance of their application.

Also, if you already have a poster from your summer presentation feel free to use that poster during Discovery Day! Introduction Results and Discussion Conclusions Here you should display and discuss your findings. This section can include pictures, charts/graphs, or text (using bullet points). Use whatever it takes to properly present your results. It may be helpful to organize data to provide a story for the audience. If you provide diagrams, always include a brief description to highlight the major point. The boxes below can be adjusted or deleted to meet your needs. Your introduction should briefly address the following: What is your research question? What are other scholars saying about your topic? How do you fit into this conversation? What makes your study significant? Avoid using a significant amount of detail in this section. In other words, avoid lengthy definitions and descriptions. The goal is to quickly engage the reader and leave them wanting more information. (200 words max) Use Arial or Times New Roman font, size 36 or larger in all text boxes. The conclusion should summarize your findings and address the following: Did your findings support or refute your hypothesis? Why are your findings important? How are your findings relevant to work already published on this topic? What are your next steps? Remember, avoid a significant amount of detail and lengthy descriptions. This includes sample size and description, replicates, etc. (200 words max) Feel free to add pictures and flow charts if this helps get your point across. Each reference shall be cited by number using a consistent in-text citation format.
