Greek and Roman Citizenship A Comparison

Notebook Entry Title: Citizenship Reference your Unit 1 Vocabulary. Re- read the definition of citizen. At your table groups, discuss the role of the citizen/examples of citizenship In your notebook, You will create a Circle Map. Citizenship goes in the center and you will add 4 or more examples of citizenship in the outer circle. Be prepared to share.

Step 1: Marking the Text Desks A & B: Greece Desks C & D: Rome Use the following steps to Mark the Text 1. Number the paragraphs 2. Circle key ideas, names of people and places, and dates. 3. Highlight or box any unfamiliar words. 4. Underline the main point or other relevant information. 5. Finally, at the end of the text, write your final impression.

Step 2: Expert Groups Conference with another student who read the same article as you. Together, come up with a summary (15 words or less) that you will be able to share. Write this summary on your document and BOX or HIGHLIGHT it.

Step 3: Pair and Share Pair up with a student who read the other side. Take turns to summarize your assigned reading for your partner. Together, work to complete the Double- Bubble Map. This is a Notebook Entry: Greek and Roman Citizenship.

Step 3: Extension Read through the class copy of Citizenship in the United States. Choose one Classical civilization (Greece or Rome) and compare the role of the citizen to that of a modern American. Create a graphic organizer of your choice to display similarities and differences (at least three of each).
