The Job Of a Meteorologist By Sophie Parks and Georgia Green

Introduction For our project we will be researching the job of a meteorologist. This project will include what a meteorologist is, how they use maths, how much they earn, the different types of meteorologists and the qualifications you would need to become a meteorologist. We chose this project because we were unfamiliar of this type of job and thought it would be a good way to learn more about it.

What Is A Meteorologist? A meteorologist is a person who studies the atmospheric and weather sciences, a weather forecaster. They use scientific principles to understand, explain and observe how the atmosphere affects the earth, weather and life on the planet. Meteorologists collect data from satellite images and weather stations all over the world. They also measure air pressure, humidity and temperature. Analyse and present the information to people. Improve computer models to make weather predictions more accurate. All of these use maths.

What types of meteorologists are there? There are many different types of meteorologists such as: Atmospheric meteorologists Operational meteorologists Physical meteorologists Synoptic meteorologists Climatologists Forensic meteorologists Environmental meteorologists Visit https://www.sokanu.com/careers/meteorologist/ to find out about all the other types of meteorologists there are.

How is maths involved? Maths is a big part of meteorology, meteorologists use maths on a daily basis. For example: Using charts, making weather predictions and interpretation. Meteorologists also use maths when collecting and interpreting data. When calculating: The probability of precipitation. How fast storms are travelling. Changing Fahrenheit to Centigrade. How long it takes temperatures to increase and decrease.

Salary and Income A meteorologist’s salary can range widely depending on what level the meteorologist is at. A trainee Operational meteorologist can earn in the region between £19,380 and £22,950. While experienced meteorologists can earn from £25,000 to £35,000. Then a manager’s salary can range from £38,000 to over £60,000.

What Qualifications Will I Need To Become A Meteorologist? To become a meteorologist you would need the following qualifications: Physics Maths Geography Environmental Studies A basic requirement would also be a four year Bachelor of Science degree in Meteorology or Atmospheric sciences.

Conclusion In conclusion a meteorologist is best suited for people who are interested in the weather and climate change. If you find the atmosphere and the science of weather interesting visit https://www.myworldofwork.co.uk/search/sitewide/meteorologists to find out more about what courses you can take to become a meteorologist.
