Remember to send in your disguised turkey! Mrs. Hake’s Friday,Nov. 11th edition CLASSROOM 2016-2017 news Week in Review: Sneak Preview Theme for the Week: Zzzz.. Turkey makes me sleepy Letters of the Week: Zz Science/Social Studies: Compare long ago and today/US holidays Math: Numbers 6-10 Rainbow Words: and/then This week we learned all about the United States of America and we explored a lot about voting. In the science center we put together a puzzle of the United States, in the art center we hole punched USA confetti, and we learned a lot about money. This week we learned that we live in the United States of America and talked about all the different US symbols. We talked about Veteran’s Day, listened to a song about the presidents, and explored coins. We read the pop-up story “America the Beautiful” by Robert Sabuda and wrote what we would do if we were president. We had a grade level vote for a fun recess activity(bubbles, sidewalk chalk, or jump rope) which allowed us to experience a voting booth. Ask your child what our winner was! Upcoming Events: . November 23rd – 25th Thanksgiving Break (No School) TURKEY DISGUISE: Remember to send in your disguised turkey! Contact info: Kari Hake khake@tippcity.k12.oh.us 937-667-2275

READING WITH YOUR CHILD AFTER READING WITH YOUR CHILD Before & During What story clues are in the title and in the pictures? Is this selection fiction or nonfiction? How do you know? Why do you want to read this story? What do you think will happen next? How do you feel about the main character? Would you do things differently if you were the main character? Does the story text make sense to you? How do you think the story will end? Is the author trying to teach you something? * Identifying coins - have your child put a coin or value you say on a paper plate or in a piggy bank. * Maps – look at the USA as you plan a trip or discuss where grandparents etc live. *Sounding out to write – pick one family event this weekend to write about. * Presidents – discuss our government: who is our president, where is the capital, our flag…. * Try the learning coins game on abcya.com * Keep Reading! AFTER READING WITH YOUR CHILD When you think you’re done, you’ve just begun! After enjoying a book with your child, whether he/she reads to you or you read to him/her, continue the experience by asking the following questions: How did the story make you feel? What did you like or dislike about the story? Does the story remind you of any other story? What were you wondering as you read? Does this book make you think of anything else you have read? What was your favorite part? Were there any parts that surprised you? What are you going to read next? Rainbow WORDS Trace, cut, practice: and then
