Timetable Literacy and Numeracy daily using creative approaches P.E. is on Monday and Friday for both classes. In the spring term both classes will be swimming on Tuesday mornings further details will follow. Much of the learning is topic based, so links are made between subjects regularly. Timetable is displayed in the classroom so children are able to organise themselves for each lesson. ICT is taught and used throughout all subjects when possible and new skills will be taught in weekly ICT lessons. Circle Time Maxine

Target Setting and Assessment To help your child to be involved in their learning, they will be set targets with their class teacher. Children will have targets for Writing Reading Maths These targets will be recorded and shared with you at Parents’ Consultation Evenings. We assess children throughout the year and we use a variety of methods to do this. cara

Reading Reading is an essential part of a child’s development in writing. Guided Reading will happen daily. We encourage children to read as wide a range of books as possible. Children have a reading log book, which they will take home with them with their library book. We will look at and check children’s comments and recordings It is important for children to read regularly to continue making progress and promote enjoyment of reading. Discussing the text with your child is invaluable. Maxine

Handwriting We develop children’s handwriting every week by short exercises focusing on different areas of letter formation. Children then will be expected to use this in all written work. We have begun to issue pen licences to children who we feel are ready for it. Maxine

Homework In Year 4 children are expected to complete: English Homework Spellings Maths Homework All homework will be linked to work covered in class. Homework should take about 45mins to an hour. Homework should be completed in their homework book. Homework is set and handed in on a Monday. Spellings will be tested on a Friday.

Support your child By helping them with their weekly homework tasks. Encourage your children to read daily. By helping them to be organised for school every day. We really value your support.
