Why „gender“ at UCT Prague Chemistry belongs to STEM disciplines Historical aspects – women were not involved in technical fields 1917 - women were not allowed to study technical universities 1918 – constitution of the Czechoslovakia – first female students 1938 – 10% women at technical universities 1939-45 – universities closed by the Nazis 1948 – 1989 - communist regime promoted equality between women and men – increase in the number of women on 30% 1954 – Julie Hamackova the 1st woman appointed professor 1955 – Julie Hamackova – first female dean at UCT Prague Currently – 60 % of female students at UCT Prague Only 10% female professors - (all are 60+ years old) Where our young talents disappears ? 19.5.2017

FP7 project TRIGGER http://triggerproject.eu/ The reflection of the current situation has resulted in proposing the project TRIGGER FP7 call 2013 - Science in Society, proposal succeeded 01/2014 – 12/2017 - Financing and realisation Consortium: 5 universities - Pisa, Politecnica Madrid, Paris Diderot, Birkbeck College –London, UCT Prague + Institute of Sociology AS CR Coordinated by Department for Equal opportunities of Italien government Each of the 5 partners involved has designed and is implementing their own tailored action plan that is focused on areas where a gender imbalance is indicated. 19.5.2017

UCT Prague Action plan The aim of the action plans is to improve institutional culture namely in three basic areas: In the working environment that should better meet the needs of young researchers, particularly female scientists taking care of small children A wider engagement of women in leading scientific positions at different levels In relevant research disciplines, that should consider gender and sex analysis in its content and methods of scientific research. 19.5.2017
