What is Taskstream? Software program Repository; a storage place A tool San Diego City College uses to store information to document our commitment to incremental improvement in courses, programs, services, and administrative areas.

Why is this important? We should always be improving how we teach and serve our students. Documenting continuous improvement is requirement for college accreditation dezzen.com

Student Learning Outcomes - measure outcomes related to student success in courses Administrative Outcomes – measure outcomes related to student services, campus programs, or administrative services/projects

All the lingo…

simply put… Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs) clearly state the expected knowledge, skills, attitudes, competencies, and habits of mind that students are expected to acquire at an institution of higher education. ~ National Institute of Learning Outcomes Assessment http://www.learningoutcomesassessment.org/TFComponentSLOS.htm Administrative Outcomes (AOs) focus on improving processes and systems to better serve our students.

Course SLOs Must Be in Every Syllabus Use the SLOs listed in Taskstream Go to Taskstream.com to find them, ask your Liaison, or contact Aaron or Nancy Select/create graded activities that you will use to assess student learning

What’s an outcome? Outcomes are written statements or goals that provide focus for measuring and improving student and institutional success. Example Course Student Learning Outcome (CSLO) Marketing Principles – MARK 100 Conceptualize, budget and draft marketing strategies for product planning and development, pricing, distribution, and promotion of a business.

allows flexibility to measure Outcomes are B R O A D allows flexibility to measure many different ways (written paper, demonstration, team project, portfolio, oral presentation, discussion, test…)

Document Annual Continuous Cycles of Improvement Use the Outcomes in Taskstream

Annual Cycle of Improvement in Taskstream Which SLOs are you assessing? Assessment Plan(s) – What will you measure? (an assignment, presentation, portfolio, team project, test, or other graded tasks completed) Assessment Findings – How did the whole class score? ( % of success) Action Plan – What will you do next time to continue to improve this course?

Every Course and Program is Evaluated and Reported Once in an Academic Year Academic Year = summer, fall, intercession, spring Check Taskstream to see if the courses you teach or programs you are part of have been reported this academic year.

Where do you start? Talk with your department chair/manager. Does your department have a liaison? If you need a Taskstream account, contact the City College SLO team (Aaron or Nancy) for a Taskstream account Attend training: department training, work with your department liaison, come to a Walk-In-Lab. davidwygant.com

Need a Committee? Join the SLO/AO Liaison’s Committee. One 1-hour meeting each month + time working with your department peers Aaron Detty adetty@sdccd.edu Nancy Fredericks nfrederi@sdccd.edu
