Connecting People to the Food they need through innovative relationships with producers, suppliers and the retail food community

Our Mission The Greater Bridgeport Area Food Bank (GBAFB) is dedicated to addressing the needs of the food insecure by: Collecting and distributing potable food that was destined to be discarded Connecting local farmers to inner-city buyers Supporting city garden initiatives Coordinating among the disparate initiatives that seek to address hunger in the city

What We do We recover usable food destined to be discarded and distribute it to food banks We connect farmers to new markets by linking small local growers with urban buyers We provide education and support for the City’s urban gardens initiative We coordinate between various nonprofits, churches and government agencies to improve the distribution of those in need

How We Help We cooperate with local food banks, Connecticut Food Bank & city government to ensure continuous services Using volunteers, we deliver fresh fruits and vegetables from local farms to food banks

In cooperation with the City of Bridgeport, we enable the active use of designated city garden plots by residents Using volunteers, we collect and distribute potable food destined for disposal from restaurants and grocery stores
