Competency Planning Tool The Competency Planning Tool enables you to map out the level of mastery across the organisation of each competency that is critical to your talent segments. Once you have identified and defined your critical talent segments, create a map for each and plot the number of individuals on this based on their performance on each competency (Partially Meets Expectations to Exceeds Expectations). Based on the completed talent segment maps, you can see where your critical gaps are and plan actions to address these, such as attract new talent or develop and retain existing critical talent. The example below shows the organisation’s map for the talent segment ‘clinical managers’ which contains three competencies. You can see that there is no one currently in the organisation who exceeds expectations for Connecting Our Service, which highlights a potential talent gap that needs to be filled. Your segments may have more than three competencies, therefore you would simply add these in and repeat the process.
