ROAD HAZARD ASSESSMENT Values at Risk Human Life & Public Safety; High Risk to road users and hikers inside the burn area. Property; Damage to invested roads. Other resources and features including trails, Little Sur River and tributaries, dispersed campgrounds and the Boy Scout Camp.

ROAD HAZARD ASSESSMENT Assessment Results The burn severity in this area is light to moderate on the slopes above and adjacent to the road. The slopes in this area are as high as 95% with many of the slopes over 75%. Road functions will become compromised during storms due to high sediment runoffs from the fire. The majority of the damage was to 18” plastic corrugated pipe that was burned leaving unsupported channels under the roadway. Many of the side down drains are too short or buried or missing which will cause eroding of the existing fills. Many catch basins and culverts are undersized and partially plugged. The drainage ditch and rolling dips need cleaning to accommodate higher than normal flows from the lack of vegetation on the slopes.

Recommendations - treatments Life & Safety: Install Information and BAER Warning Signs on Rd 18S05.2.. Property: Replace channel where 18” plastic corrugated pipe used to be with 24” CMP to accommodate larger amounts of sediment and debris due to the fire. Clean and maintain ditches and culverts Clean and enlarge catch basins. Clean existing and install rolling dips. Add side down drains. Conduct Storm Patrol Remove 2 24” CMP and replace with 1-64” CMP.
