Apps are impacting on all aspects of learning and assessment

What is an app anyway? An app is a self contained programme or piece of software designed to fulfil a particular purpose, an application, especially as downloaded by a user to a mobile device

Some statistics Currently 1.6m android apps and 1.5m Apple apps available 100 billion downloads of apps in 2015 60,000 new apps are added to the Apple store every month 4.3 billion people worldwide have Apps on their phone The average person opens 10 Apps a day

The place of apps in the HND programme Apps can help you teach and help your students learn Apps can help you communicate with your students and help deliver support to them Apps can help you communicate with other teachers across China

Delivering learning and support using apps in China Share with your group How do you use QQ and Wechat to support teaching activities? How do you use QQ and Wechat to help you support students and remain in touch with them? Note down each method on a separate post it note

Delivering learning and support using apps in China How QQ and Wechat are used support teaching activities? Setting up Class groups for communications and sharing teaching presentations and teaching resources Setting class discussion activities to take place between students outside class – teacher can join the group to monitor the activity, they may not always take part in the discussions Setting oral activities for students to complete which the teacher can listened back to, allowing them to check the student’s language skills Submission of formative assessments

Delivering learning and support using apps in China How QQ and Wechat are used to help support students and remain in touch with them? Set up class groups Keep in touch with students outside class, catch up with absent students Answer student queries Arranging tutorials with individual students Send out important information such as timetable changes Set up a group with HND alumni and current students to provide additional sharing of information and support

Using apps to stage in touch with other teachers Move to a group of teachers who teach the same subject area as you do – try and not have anyone else from your Centre in your group How could you use these apps to help you keep in touch as teachers? What do you need to do to make it happen?

Allows us to talk to teachers who are in other towns about the content of our units and the activities that we use To do this, we share our details and start communicating
