The Devotion of God’s people Colossians 4:2-6

Colossians 4:2-6 Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful. 3 And pray for us, too, that God may open a door for our message, so that we may proclaim the mystery of Christ, for which I am in chains. 4 Pray that I may proclaim it clearly, as I should. 

Colossians 4:2-6 5 Be wise in the way you act toward outsiders; make the most of every opportunity. 6 Let your conversation be always full of grace, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how to answer everyone.

I. How to Speak to God About Others (v.2-4) “Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful.”(v.2) 1) Devoted prayer is watchful Watchful can be translated as “awake.” Watchful can be translated as “alert.” Watchful can be translated as “vigilant.”

I. How to Speak to God About Others (v.2-4) 2. Devoted prayer is thankful. We must believe that the character of God is always good. We must believe that God is all wise. We must believe that God is sovereign.

I. How to Speak to God About Others (v.2-4) “And pray for us, too, that God may open a door for our message” (Col. 4:3). 3. Devoted prayer includes petitions for open doors. It is God who opens and closes doors

I. How to Speak to God About Others (v.2-4) “Pray that I may proclaim it clearly, as I should” (v.4). 4. Devoted prayer petitions for the proclamation of God’s Word. Prayer and God’s Word always must come together. Devoted prayer must be consumed with praying for the Word of God.

II. How to speak to others about God (v.5-6) Be wise in the way you act toward outsiders; make the most of every opportunity.” (v.5) Living out what we believe Intentional about how we act and what we say. We are not judgmental in our attitudes toward sinners

II. How to speak to others about God (v.5-6) “Let your conversation be always full of grace, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how to answer everyone.” (v.6) What you say reflects who you serve… Well we are the bride of Christ and we are called to carry ourselves with dignity and grace
