GREAT PRAYERS OF THE BIBLE

HZEKIAH’S PRAYER FOR HEALING

“In those days Hezekiah became ill and was at the point of death “In those days Hezekiah became ill and was at the point of death. The prophet Isaiah son of Amoz went to him and said, ‘This is what the Lord says, Put your house in order, because you are going to die; you will not recover.” 2 Kings 20:1 NIV

“Hezekiah turned his face to the wall and prayed to the Lord, ‘Remember, O Lord, how I walked before you faithfully and with wholehearted devotion and have done what is good in your eyes.’ And Hezekiah wept bitterly.” 2 Kings 20:2-3 NIV

“Before Isaiah had left the middle court, the word of the Lord came to him: ‘Go back and tell Hezekiah, the leader of my people, ‘This is what the Lord, the God of your father David, says: I have heard your prayer and seen your tears; I will heal you. On the third day from now you will go up to the temple of the Lord.” 2 Kings 20:4-5 NIV

“I will add fifteen years to your life “I will add fifteen years to your life. And I will deliver you and this city from the hand of the king of Assyria. I will defend this city for my sake and for the sake of my servant David.’ Then Isaiah said, Prepare a poultice of figs. They did so and applied it to the boil, and he recovered.” 2 Kings 20:6-7 NIV

Hezekiah was going to die What would you do? Some people just give up Some people make desperate attempts to save themselves Some people get angry and curse God Isaiah told Hezekiah to put his house in order! – 2 Kings 20:1

Hezekiah was going to die Is your house in order? Are you ready to leave this life? Are you ready to meet God? – Hebrews 9:27; 2 Corinthians 5:10

Hezekiah prayed to the Lord He turned his face to the wall and prayed He wanted to be alone with God – 2 Kings 20:2-3 He reminded God of his faithfulness – 2 Kings 18:1-4 He reminded God of his wholehearted devotion – 2 Kings 18:5-6 He reminded God of his good works – 2 Kings 18:7

Hezekiah prayed to the Lord He wept bitterly He was overcome with emotion – 2 Kings 20:3 Our most sincere and earnest prayers are often born out of deep emotion – Psalms

The Lord heard his prayer and saw his tears God always hears our prayers – 1 John 5:14-5 They don’t have to be lengthy or wordy– Matthew 6:7-8 They just need to be honest and heartfelt – Luke 18:9-14 They need to be accompanied by a righteous walk – 2 Kings 20:3; Isaiah 59:1-2; James 5:16

The Lord heard his prayer and saw his tears God also sees our tears Jesus offered up prayers and petitions with loud cries and tears to the one who could save him from death–Hebrews 5:7-9 Jesus understands our weaknesses and feels our pain – Hebrews 4:15-16; John 11:32-37

The Lord healed Hezekiah He extended Hezekiah’s life fifteen years It wasn’t the poultice of figs that saved him, although it did play a part – 2 Kings 20:7-11 God is ALWAYS the One who heals! – Psalm 103:1-5

The Lord healed Hezekiah God still works miracles today! He’s able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or even imagine! – Ephesians 3:20; Luke 1:37 He doesn’t always give us what we want – James 4:2-3; Luke 22:36-46 But He always gives us what is best! – Romans 8:28
