Palm branches were one of the nationalistic symbols of Judea since the days of the Maccabees (circa 167 BC). They were used to celebrate military victories and awaken messianic hopes among the people.

they “missed civilization.” Some Christians visited a remote Christian mission station to see how the ministry was doing. As they watched the dedicated missionary team at work, they were impressed with their ministry, but admitted that they “missed civilization.”
