Using Panopto to Record Presentations Mike Jones Professor of Speech

Locate and Click on Panopto Recordings

Click to Open Panopto

Download the Recorder

Select Your Operating System

Select Create and Record Avoid New Folder

Place in your Class Folder (Sub-folders limit viewer access)

To Record – Launch Recorder Your screen may flash and resize To Record – Launch Recorder Your screen may flash and resize. Do not panic. It is adjusting the resolution for the recorder. It will return to normal when you exit.

If Using Chrome, Allow Permission to Launch Application

Always Select a Primary Source for Video and Audio

Before Recording!!! Check Your Room Lighting Check the Microphone It is best to have the light behind the camera or overhead, not behind the speaker Check the Microphone The Panopto window will have a sound meter Check Camera Focus The speaker must be standing and the camera should show the full person, not just the upper body or head. Choose a Location for the Video (You will have a folder for your specific class)

Title the Session and Upload

Wait for Uploading, Encoding, & Processing

After loading, hover your curser over video to get list of options or click on the icons in the upper right corner. Select Settings

View – Allows Preview of Video

Edit – Allows trimming, cutting, insertion and more Help Play Trim Add-ins

Share – Allows Others to View Video Settings Viewers

Select Podcast Options If using PowerPoint, choose Side-by-Side Layout and quality

Download Podcast Click on Download Name the File Save to a location on your computer, flash drive, or cloud-based storage

Return to the Peer Team Page and Click on the Presentation Type

Select Your Video Format ( YouTube or Panopto) Click on the title link to download the instructions

Warning Not following directions may cause you to delete a team member’s video and files. Follow the instructions!!

After reading the instructions, Select Edit

Locate your name and place the curser next to the word “Video”

Locate and Click the Record/Upload Media Icon Place curser here BEFORE clicking video upload icon

Select Upload Media Tab and Select your Video File from the location where you saved your MP4 file location

After locating the file, click on OPEN to insert

Wait for File to Load

After File has loaded, click Save There may be a delay while the file converts. This is normal.

Return to the Presentation Page and verify that your video loaded

Option 2 Creating and Embedding the HTML This process also starts with the Panopto Outputs page

Select Outputs

Select and Copy the HTML Code in the Embed Box Copy the Entire Code Require Login Settings – More Secure

After reading the instructions, Select Edit

Click on the HTML Editor

Locate Your Insertion Point in the HTML Code DANGER: This is where you can accidently delete another person’s video. Pay close attention to where you insert your embed code!! 1. Find your Name in the Code 2. Find the word “Video”.
