HCS Responsibilities Designate the number of TFA candidates needed Identify high needs areas for teachers Place teachers in schools where the population is 60% Free and Reduced Lunch TFA candidates are screened through the HCS hiring process Compensation of teachers Will pay TFA an annual fee for each year the teacher is employed

TFA Responsibilities Candidate recruitment and selection Broad range of academic majors and career fields Diverse backgrounds Mandatory pre-service training Ongoing PD and Online data storage services Highly qualified status Ensure that teachers remain credentialed

Since 2012-13, TFAs have made up a small part of teacher hires, being no more than 10% of total hires each year Number of Teachers Hired 7% of Hires 10% of Hires 6% of Hires 6% of Hires Academic Year

73% of TFAs come from universities outside of Alabama Number of TFA Teachers State

Political Science, Psychology, Sociology, etc. TFAs bring with them a wide variety of expertise. Only 24% have a degree in an education related field; some of the most common other degrees include Political Science, English, History, Psychology, and Biology.
