Teachers Qualification Services (TQS) Who Should Apply to the Teacher Qualifications Service? Beginning teachers and teachers new to Alberta. Teachers who have upgraded their university/college education. Teachers who want advice on what additional courses or programs they might take to improve their placement on the salary grid. NOTE: Teachers who are not clear about how their educational qualifications were assessed or who disagree with an assessment they have received can ask for a reassessment or appeal their TQS evaluation to the Teacher Qualification Committee. Who does a teacher contact with TQS Concerns? Have teachers access the provincial website to access and complete forms. Role of the School Representative – Communicator Set up an ATA Space (if you haven’t already) This could be on a table, bulletin board, or white board space. Request time at a staff meeting to introduce yourself as the School Representative (if you haven’t already). Introduce the alternate rep(s) and make sure that all teachers know you are available to help them with concerns or information. Find out how many teachers at your school would like a printed copy of the ATA News. You can reduce the number that are delivered to your school by calling Barnett House. Toll Free 1-800-232-7208. Do’s & Don’ts at CSR meetings • Sign in when you arrive. We use this information to verify your attendance for per diem purposes. • Make sure you bring your information package and/or have downloaded all documents to your desktop. • Take notes that are relevant to your staff and all members of the Local. • Minimize table conversation. • Alternates may attend with the main rep as a learning experience but may not speak at the mics or vote. • Alternates who attend in place of the main rep have the right to speak at the mics and vote. • Remember – you must still be in attendance at the end of the meeting to win the door prize! Role of the School Representative – Enumerator Accurate data in membership profile is essential for quality service from the provincial ATA Communication Provincial election Issuing membership cards Mailing address change Name change School change (within the same district) You are also the returning officer for Local 38 elections and by-elections.
