Today: Beginning Your “Crafty Consumer Booklet” 1/17/08 BR- Can you describe the difference between a debit card and a credit card? Today: Beginning Your “Crafty Consumer Booklet”

MiniProject – 60 Points (half of your consumer ed grade) You will design a small booklet that is designed to provide important information to consumers about a variety of topics.

Details.. The booklet will be constructed out of blank paper. The booklet will have 5 informational topic pages and one title/cover page (the front of the book.) Each informational page will focus on one of the following topics: Contracts, Warranties, Credit, Deceptive Sales Practices, Being A Smart Consumer, Cars and the Consumer, and Housing and the Consumer. These topics correspond to chapters in the red book.

Details.. The booklet must be finished by the end of the day on Wednesday. Each informational page should include 3 points of information (see example) and some sort of graphic. For full credit make the booklet should be attractive to the audience (use color, and graphics!) It should also be broken down so that everyone can understand it.

Details.. You will begin work on Thursday and will have time to work on Friday. Since we will be reviewing for the Wednesday exam on Tuesday, THERE WILL BE NO CLASS TIME ON TUESDAY TO WORK ON THE BOOKLET. If you need help, materials or ideas you may see me 8th or 9th period on Thursday or Tuesday.

Credit: Here are some helpful tips about using credit cards! Example: Credit: Here are some helpful tips about using credit cards! Interest Rate: know what the interest rate is on your card. If its too high think about switching to a new card. Pay off your balance each month! – Keeping a large balance means that you will be charged interest. You could end up paying $400 for a $100 item. Beware of Hidden Fees: is there a charge for paying late, having credit insurance, or any other service charges? Know what you are being charged for so you don’t have to pay extra
