10. All Welcome Acts 10:1-48 p. 1013-4

The Basis of Faith Vision Ministries – MMF: Church plants in Canada. Exciting to see God at work. Press on towards the goal (Phil 3:12-14) Then I watched the US election results. Our faith is in Jesus Christ.

1. The Spreading Gospel Jesus’ commands his disciples: Acts 1:8. We have seen how the story unfolds: Pentecost … miracles … many come to faith … Persecution … disciples scattered. The Story of Philip … The Samaritans are included Eunuch excluded (Deut 23:1) … now included Inclusiveness of the Gospel is a special privilege.

2. A Tale of Two Visions Cornelius is “devout and God-fearing” (v 2) Has a vision to send for Peter. Peter has a vision that makes no sense to him (v 17f) Peter explains to Cornelius (v 28) … … he is putting the pieces together Holy people (Lev 19:2) – separate from what is unclean. Connection between food, people, uncleanness (Lev 20:24f) Peter tells them about Jesus (v 44-46)

3. The Human Element People matter God forgives … but the consequences remain. God has chosen to involve us – to work through us God was bringing people in (v 34-35) Including Gentiles was mind-blowing to Jewish Christians Not only accept it … EMBRACE it! Something that had never happened before (Col 3:11)

Jesus’ prayer – “they may be one” (John 17:22-23) A four day saga – 3. The Human Element . . . Jesus’ prayer – “they may be one” (John 17:22-23) Our love for one another testifies about Jesus. A four day saga – So that God could do a mighty work in Peter’s life So that all disciples realize God was changing the rules Opening up the doors of the Kingdom to everyone.

Living It Two Visions: Peter’s vision makes no sense to him until he obeys. We should do the same! Too quick to rationalize away what God may be saying. We should remain open to His work

Living It . . . Church Matters: This story reveals the importance of the body of Christ. People sharing life together is the heart of the Gospel. Church is the people God gathers together It must remain open to all. The miracle of the Gospel – we are one in our diversity.

Living It . . . Jesus is made known when we love one another Not when our doctrine is perfect! In the growing opposition to our message we need to stand together: To support one another To be a place of refuge
