OVERCOMING Failure

“There is no one righteous, not even one.” Romans 3:10 NIV “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus.” Romans 3:23 NIV

“If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. If we claim we have not sinned, we make him out to be a liar and his word has no place in our lives.” 1 John 1:8-10 NIV

EVERYONE experiences Failure Failure is a part of Life It doesn’t discriminate by education or status, or . . . Even the “great ones” fail This is also true in our Spiritual lives

EVERYONE experiences Failure The Bible is full of stories about Failure! Adam and Eve, Abraham, Moses, Miriam, David, Elijah, Peter, Martha, Paul . . . God is not surprised when we fail! – Psalm 139:16

Failure is NOT Final! Satan tries to use our failures to defeat us He makes us feel unworthy – 1 Cor. 15:9-10; 1 Tim. 1:12-16 He wants us to believe that we just can’t do it – Moses He constantly reminds us of our past failures – Peter He continues to put stumbling blocks in our way – 2 Corinthians 2:11

Failure is NOT Final! But God uses our failures to grow our faith! He works ALL things together for good – Romans 8:28; Genesis 50:18-21 Jesus and Peter’s failures – Luke 22:31-32; John 21:15-17

How to OVERCOME your Failures Face your failures honestly – 1 John 1:8-10 Don’t deny your failures – 1 John 1:8, 10 Don’t blame others for your failures – Genesis 3:12-13 Don’t make excuses for your failures – Genesis 3:12-13 Just humble yourself before God and confess – 1 John 1:9; James 4:7-10

How to OVERCOME your Failures Learn from them and move forward Forgetting what is behind – Philippians 3:12-13 Straining toward what is ahead – Philippians 3:13b I press on toward the goal – Philippians 3:14

How to OVERCOME your Failures Remember God is on our side! – Romans 8:31-39 His love is NOT dependant upon our success! - Lamentations 3:22-24 He sent Jesus to save us from our failures! – Romans 5:6-8; 1 John 2:1-2

“My dear children, I write this to you so that you will not sin “My dear children, I write this to you so that you will not sin. But if anybody does sin, we have one who speaks to the Father in our defense - Jesus Christ, the Righteous One. He is the atoning sacrifice for our sins, and not only for ours but also for the sins of the whole world” 1 John 2:1-2 NIV
