Vs 21-35 “Then Peter came to him and asked, Lord, how often should I forgive someone who sins against me?...That’s what my heavenly Father will do to you if you refuse to forgive your brothers and sisters from your heart.”

Two Misunderstandings About Forgiveness (BCF-Self-Confrontation) “I am commanded to forgive only when someone comes to me to ask for my forgiveness.” 2. “When I forgive, I must release the guilty person from all the consequences of his sin.”

Matthew 6:14-15 “For if you forgive others for their transgressions, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive others, then your Father will not forgive your transgressions.”

Luke 17:3-4 “Be on your guard! If your brother sins, rebuke him; and if he repents, forgive him. And if he sins against you seven times a day, and returns to you seven times, saying, 'I repent,' forgive him.”

1 John 4:10 “In this is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins.” Rom. 5:8 But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

In order for the granting of forgiveness: A change of mind 2) A sense of guilt and shame 3) A confession (to God and the other person)

Proverbs 28:13 “He who conceals his transgressions will not prosper, but he who confesses and forsakes them will find compassion.” John 1:9 “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”

Confess your sin to the person with true repentance, sincerity and humility. Define your sin factually and briefly. No blame-shifting, excuses or minimizing. Don't just say, "I'm sorry“. Don't let the offended person minimize the matter. Mention your plan for not repeating this sin.
