Creating Truly Sustainable Communities James Cruddas Head of Sustainable Communities The Northern Way

The North’s residential offer matters to attracting and retaining workers and firms high quality and wide choice of homes economic asset in own right location, location, location perception is that the North’s residential offer isn’t that good

The North’s residential offer: our objective “ to secure for the Northern regions a policy and investment framework that will deliver quality places and homes, thereby making the optimum contribution to sustained economic growth”

Locating homes in the right places research shows current approach little more than a numbers game the North wants a new approach, the basis for which lies in our research important that the relationship between economic growth and housing is recognised in national planning policy but we have a responsibility not to reduce debate to a number

The long-term prize: raising the quality of our residential offer exploring the relationship between quality of place/residential offer and economic growth framework for assessing the North’s current residential offer review effectiveness of current investment in residential offer CSR 2007

So what? The North needs you… it’s time to think a little differently about our places and homes to recognise economic function and potential of different places to reflect the economic intelligence in your plans for housing and spatial planning
