Neolithic Era Social Studies

Aim & Do Now Aim: How did the development of agriculture bring great changes to human society? Watch the Brain Pop video and answer following questions http://www.brainpop.com/socialstudies/worldhistory/agriculturalrevolution/   What is the Neolithic Revolution? Who were the Hunter-Gatherers? What does “division of labor” mean?

Answer Questions Q1 – Identify the Neolithic Revolution. Why was it an important time for humanity? Refer to the readings.   Q2 – What were the causes of the Neolithic Revolution? What were the effects? Compare the Stone Age to the Neolithic Age. Q3 – Cite evidence from the article and the comic strip as to how the Neolithic Era was a turning point for mankind. Q4 – Analyze the relationship between domesticated plants and domesticated animals. Prove how the two were connected.

Key Defintions Neolithic Era – Or New Stone Age. A time when people learned to make tools like saws and drills.   Domestication – The process of changing plants or animals to make them more useful to humans. Agriculture – Farming. People producing their own food.

Important Notes During the New Stone Age, people learned to polish tools like saws and drills. People also learned how to make fire. Before, they could only use fire that had been started by natural causes such as lighting.

Important Notes The biggest change during this time was how man produced food. Domestication provided a huge boost in population because it made food readily available.   Agriculture also provided a major change because people could now grow their crops instead of go pick them.

Homework Homework read pages 88-91 Complete questions 1A and 1B
