Learning Objectives To be able to define the European Union (EU) and name some of the countries that belong to it. To know a brief history of the EU. To have thought about advantages and disadvantages of belonging to the EU.

Learning Outcomes To have created a spider diagram about the EU To have completed a True/False/? exercise. To have worked with an atlas finding EU countries

The European Union Wednesday 13th September Spend the first 5 minutes making a spider diagram with any facts you know about the EU. The European Union

True, False, ? It started in 1957 as the European Community and the UK joined in 1973. The EU has its’ own Parliament and this is based in Paris. Each country has to pay money to be a member, and this mostly comes from taxes. Russia is a member of the EU. It began as a post-war idea between 8 countries that wanted to share control over coal and steel to guarantee a more peaceful future fro Europe.
