Began after WW2 ended to bring countries together and avoid future fighting
European countries pay a membership to be a part of the union With the membership they get to: 1. Share borders – you don’t need a passport to travel from one country to another 2. Use the same currency (money) called the “euro”
Using the same money and not having to have a passport makes traveling much easier Trade is easier – businesses can make more money working with other businesses in the European Union, removed trade barriers
