Olympic Motto The Olympic motto,”Citius,Alius, Fortius”,is Latin for Swifter,Higher, Stronger.” The motto was also the name of an Olympic history journal from 1992 to 1997,when it was renamed the “Journal of Olympic History.” Athletes want to be thinking about this motto when they are competing.

Olympic Torch and Flame The torch is carried by athletes, leaders, celebrities, and ordinary people. Months before the Games are held, the Olympic flame is lit on a torch. It is left to burn throughout the Games until the Closing Ceremony, when it is extinguished to signify the end of the Games.

The Five Olympic Rings The five Olympic Rings represent the five inhabited continents of the world, united by Olympism. Continents: Europe, America, Asia, Africa, & Australia.

Olympic Games History Traditionally, the flag is passed from the mayor of one host city to the next host at the Closing Ceremony, where it will be taken to the new host and displayed at the city hall. This year, the Olympic Games will be held in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.

Figure Skating Figure Skating emerged as a necessary part of survival in Northern Europe around 1,700 years ago. Little changed in technology until 1572, when wood runners gave way to iron blades. At that point, skating slowly evolved into a recreational activity. One of the earliest skating maneuvers , the “Dutch Roll” (a skill that involves pushing off from one skate and gliding on the other) emerged during the 17th century. In addition, the first skating club was founded in Edinburgh, Scotland, in 1642. The only equipment used are figure skates.

The Scoring Board The technical score is based on the difficulty of elements in the skater’s program and the quality with those elements are executed. The program components mark is used to grade the overall presentation and performance.

Figure Skater Keauna McLaughlin Keauna McLaughlin was born on September,25,1992. She was born in Tarzana,California. Her hometown is Los Angeles, California. She still lives there today. She skated in shows along side her mother,Lei’lna McLaughlin,a skating coach. This year,her skating partner is Rockne Burbaker.

What I learned about the Olympic Games I learned about the Olympic motto. I learned that it means “Swifter, Higher, Stronger.” I learned that months before the Games, the torch is lit and left lit until the Ending Ceremony.

Most Fascinating Thing About the Games This is what I think is the most fascinating thing about the Winter Olympics. How much the athletes work themselves to compete. How much time, effort and work they put into training and working on getting ready to compete. That is what I think the most fascinating thing about the Winter Olympic Games.

How I Feel to be done with My PowerPoint I feel very relieved to be done with my PowerPoint. I am glad that I don’t have to be worried that I won’t have enough time to finish it. So I am VERY, VERY relieved! ;
