University of California, Irvine, School of Education From the School Yard to the Prison Yard: Juveniles Justice with Minorities Brittany Foreman University of California, Irvine, School of Education Background Methods and Theoretical Framework Key Findings The school to prison pipeline describes the proportionately high school dropout rates that affects African American and Latinos students, which are brought on by the systemic factors such s punitive practice and zero tolerance policies within schools. This projects examines the existing literature and the experience of hyper criminalization and pushout African American and Latino youths. Black and Latino youth are much more likely to be in contact with the juvenile justice system. Involvement in the juvenile justice system is associated with the negative educational outcomes School to prison pipeline is one of the most pressing equity and educational issues in our country.
