The skeletal system

The skeletal system is a human body system made up of over 200 bones, actually most humans have _________ bones in their body. Every time you walk, run, or jump, you are using your skeleton. 206

FUNCTIONS OF THE SKELETAL SYSTEM

There are many function of the skeletal system in the human body. Bones provide _________________ for muscles, joints, tendons, etc., and they help form our shape. Bones provide __________________ for different organs such as the heart, brain, and lungs. support protection

movement blood cells storage Bones allow ______________________________, such as running, jumping, and sitting. Bones create __________________ ______________. The bone marrow inside many of our bones is where red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets are made. Bones provide _______________________ of calcium, phosphorus, sodium, and other minerals. blood cells storage

TWO PARTS of THE SKELETAL SYSTEM

Axial rib cage skull spinal cord axis ___________skeleton: provides protection to the organs of the upper body. Some of these bones are the ___________, ____________, and _____________________. The word “axial” comes from the word ________ and refers to the fact that the bones are located close to or along the central axis of the body. skull rib cage spinal cord axis

Appendicular arms legs shoulders hipbone (pelvis) joined ________________________ skeleton: is made up of the bones in the ____________, ________________, and their supports, such as the _______________________ and ______________________________. The word “appendicular” is an adjective of the word appendage, which means it is ______________________ to something larger. Appendicular arms legs shoulders hipbone (pelvis) joined

TYPES OF BONES

Long ____________ bones are those that are longer than they are wide. They are subject to most of the load during daily activities, and they are crucial for skeletal movement. Examples are the arm and leg bones.

Short ________________ bones are those that are as wide as they are long. Their function is to provide support and stability with little or no movement. Examples are the bones in the hand and foot.

Flat ________________ bones are those which are designed for protection or for muscular attachment. Examples are the skull, rib cage, breast bone, and shoulder bone.

Irregular ________________ bones are those which cannot be grouped due to their abnormal shape. Examples are the spine and facial bones.
