My Past Judy Jackson EDU 697: Capstone: A Project Approach Instructor: Keith Pressey May 18, 2013
My name is Judy Jackson
I am the oldest daughter of my maternal grandmother's oldest daughter. My gram Mom All of my family were born in Michigan. My grandfather
My mother didn't know what to teach her oldest next after simple reading so she forced the school authorities to accept me into kindergarten at 4 ½ years of age. In fact, my mother said (with much regret) that she knew I was going to be a teacher after my first day of school.
She knew because I came home and organized a preschool in the backyard.
I have a younger sister and brother. My father is different from theirs. This meant that I didn't inherit the dyslexia that they did. At age 7 we moved to California where I have lived most of the rest of my life. We got our first TV in California.
Except for the 6 years I spent in American Samoa Except for the 6 years I spent in American Samoa. I was introducing the teachers there to computers. In Samoa I taught their staff about computers even though some of them had never used a typewriter before coming to my training.
While a sophomore in college I worked with an IBM 360 computer as big as my couch. I also took 2 courses in remedial teaching while at college and on that basis I was hired to be a Special Education Teacher in Corcoran, CA. I taught 8 years there with the Mentally Retarded, Educationally Handicapped, and as a Math Specialist.
I hope with the help of a Master's Degree to be able to teach online and avoid the constant winter asthma attacks. I’m 67, never married and can’t give up on teaching.
I want to use technology to meet individual needs for all students - especially through quests.
