Reactions associated with specific pathways of carbohydrate fermentation. A: Dehydratase and aldolase reactions used in the Entner-Doudoroff pathway. B: The phosphoketolase reaction. This reaction, found in several pathways for fermentation of carbohydrates, generates the mixed acid anhydride acetyl phosphate, which can be used for substrate phosphorylation of adenosine diphosphate (ADP).
