ERECT AND DISMANTLE STEEL TUBULAR SCAFFOLDING WITHIN OSHA GUIDELINES. TASK - 204 ERECT AND DISMANTLE STEEL TUBULAR SCAFFOLDING WITHIN OSHA GUIDELINES.

ADVANTAGES OF TUBULAR SCAFFOLDING Easy to erect. Durable Stength

Scaffold Buck Is one piece of the scaffold frame There are two per section One on each end of the scaffold

BRACE Also called a cross brace or X brace. This piece of metal fastens the two bucks together. Forms an X shape when connected to the studs or pins welded to the bucks.

PIN This metal piece connects the section of scaffold to the one below it. The pin or nipple slips into the hollow tubing of the scaffold frame or buck.

PLANK OR PLANKING A piece of wood that is used to bridge between the two bucks. Plank should be 2” thick and 8 to 12 inches wide. Aluminum planking or staging can also be used.

PLATFORM The area for a worker to work above ground level.

BRACKET/HANGERS Also called scaffold extenders. They are fastened to the front of the scafflod frame or buck They serve as a platform for the worker to walk on. A counter balance in needed on the outside buck when using brackets.

SCREW JACKS They are adjustable metal legs. They are used to level the scaffold. They are inserted at the bottom of the first section of scaffold.

BASE PLATE

BLOCKING Used to level up scaffold when not using screwjacks. Usually solid pieces of 2X8’s or larger wood or plywood. Use only solid masonry units. Never use CMU’s that are cored.

SCAFFOLD SILL The board on which the scaffold rest. Must be a 2X8 or larger

PUTLOGS Are crosspieces of heavy timber or steel beam. One end of which rests in a hole left in the foundation wall. The other end is resting on solid ground or a suitable base. Putlogs are used to bridge open excavation.

GUARDRAILS Placed around the outside edge of the scaffolding. Prevents workers from falling off the scaffold

TOE BOARDS Installed at the bottom outside edge to prevent masonry materials or scraps from dropping off the scaffold. Prevents injury to people on the ground.

SAFETY RULES The mason should always inspect every scaffold before beginning work. The mason should make sure there is good footing under the scaffold. The scaffold must be on level, solid ground.
