Station One- Historical Context Read pages 462-465 (read all boxes and the timeline) Answer the analysis question on page 463 (under “Connect to the Period”) Paraphrase the essential information under the blue headings on pages 464-465. Label the headings. Read pages 466-473 Answer the essential unit questions (the blue questions, label these) by paraphrasing the information provided Transcribe answers on the poster board provided neatly and legibly

Label your response with the title of the artwork before answering the following questions: Why did your group choose this image? What features or content drew your group’s attention? What do you think the theme or purpose inspired the artist to create this work? If you could re-title this artwork, what would you call it and why? What elements of the painting clearly identify it with ideas of Realism?

Station 3- Spirituals and Contemporary Connections Read “Go Down Moses” and “Swing Low, Sweet Chariot” on pages 532-534 Find a contemporary song that speaks about the theme of oppression or the search for salvation/escape. Copy the song title, artist, and lyrics on one side of the page before answering the following questions on the back: Specifically, how does your group’s song choice connect to the ideas explored in both spirituals? What specific lines discuss oppression or salvation/escape? Make this connection clear in your response. Why did your group choose this song? Why is it an important song that speaks to our times?
