What is the role of the Employment and Skills Board? To monitor progress of the County Council’s Employment Strategy to make sure everybody is working together around Employment and Skills. To co-ordinate all Council resources on activities that support employment, skills and training for young people. To ensure activity delivered by the Council meets the needs of all young people (including those who are easily forgotten) to help them into work or training. To ensure the work of the Council is in tune with the needs of business in Derbyshire. To influence and develop enterprise education in supporting entrepreneurial skills in young people. To meet the Council’s needs as an employer and responding to challenges of a workforce who are getting older.

The Role Responsibilities of a Youth Councillor on the Skills and Employment Board To make sure that young people have a voice with those who provide services in the County in relation to employment and skills. Represent the views of all young people to the Board in relation to Skills and Employment. You need to listen to what other young people are saying about these issues and how they are affected by them. You will be expected to feed this information to the Board at meetings. You will not be expected to solve problems or issues but you can report them. To encourage the involvement of young people, especially those who are easily forgotten, and to find out issues affecting them in relation to skills and employment. You will need to work with the rest of the Youth Council to make sure you represent other people’s views To feedback to the Youth Council items that are discussed at the Board and to bring any issues from the Youth council to the Board which relate to Skills and Employment. To attend Employment and Skills Board meetings which take place about every 7 weeks.

What's Next? If you are interested in being the rep on the Employment and Skills Board you need to tell us briefly: Why do you want to be the rep? How you are going to fill this role? What help you will need to fulfil this role? Once we have heard from everyone who is interested we will vote to elect the Employment and Skills Board rep at your next meeting
