Supporting Members with NAHT Assure Services Regional Secretaries - NAHT 2nd July 2014 Stuart Collard – Head of Sales Gabriel Obaseki – Sales South Region

Supporting Members with NAHT Assure Services Purpose (Why) Membership take-up of Services (Where) Progress since the Pilot (What) Success of working with Branch Officials & lessons learned (How) How the Regional Secretaries can assist Discussion PRIVATE & CONFIDENTIAL

PRIVATE & CONFIDENTIAL Purpose (Why) A unique range of professional services to support Members with practical on-the ground support when it matters Supporting & implementing NAHT Policy : HR, Health & Safety, Payroll, Property & Finance : an outreach arm of the NAHT Independent & in the school’s interest, dedicated staff, specific to education. Providing Headteachers and Business Managers with the support and tools to make a positive impact allowing them to focus on teaching and learning Designed and quality assured by the NAHT and Members. Membership choice – taking the risk out Sharing innovation and success with the NAHT PRIVATE & CONFIDENTIAL

Membership take-up of Services (Where) England & Wales: Strictly Education reach into over 100 Local Authorities Starting in February 2013 with a pilot in West Midlands, South Wales, Yorkshire. 40 Contracts across 19 LA’s with a Value of £100k: £60k in 2013 761 current Members in our client base are benefiting from the services and policies: adding value to existing Membership Clear that we make inroads where there is a need – schools are not getting value from the LA Often Assure presence results in improving services from the LA Importance of working in close co-operation with the LA PRIVATE & CONFIDENTIAL

Progress since the Pilot (What) NAHT Partnership Board successful - challenge & innovation (e.g. Asbestos) Communicating useful guidance: News articles in Leadership Links and Leadership Focus, emails from Branch Officers. Endorsement and face-to-face conferences/workshops remain our most effective tool Agreement renewed for a further 3 years, launched Nationally in March Aim to reduce cost of reaching out. Problems engagement with Branches Working with Aspire to see how together we can make a bigger impact. From joint marketing to programmes of support such as Finance and HR. On-line DBS with the NAHT, currently handling 700 checks per month, 3-4 days turnaround, visibility of status. Attended over 60 events representing Assure PRIVATE & CONFIDENTIAL

Success of working with Branch Officials & lessons learned (How) Member and Branch Officer endorsement is key, but very challenging to engage with. Responding to the local context and challenges is crucial. (e.g. IoW, Wolverhampton, Merthyr) Most effective and successful when we form part of the policy message and support (e.g. Roadshows & Performance Management) Personal communications and endorsement from Branch Officers have the greatest impact otherwise opening rates are low Getting in front of schools in a workshop environment where we can demonstrate knowledge and impact on local issues Provision of a safety net and support where LAs are failing, providing poor value or pulling out PRIVATE & CONFIDENTIAL

How Regional Secretaries can assist Success will come with the long term endorsement and becoming part of the fabric of the NAHT, raising the awareness of the Assure Brand Supporting Policy and being present in the communications and thinking Working closely with the NAHT Helplines and policy – an integrated service Ideas for innovative services – local knowledge of the challenges members face We should be able to increase the number of schools fourfold over the next 12 months and develop a range of On-line tools that provide scale, greater impact, and better management (e.g. DBS, Contracts, linking with Aspire). Opportunities to be part of Branch meetings and workshops. Support infrastructure to those meetings. NAHT Assure Booking system available for trial Discussion How we can better engage and reach out to Members & understand local Branch challenges/opportunities (e.g. failing LAs).  www.nahtassure.co.uk Stuart Collard Stuart.Collard@strictlyeducation.co.uk (m) 07739 649611
