Volunteer Orientation Together We’re Stronger Liz Larsen Volunteer & Community Outreach Senior Manager Welcome to NMFA! I know you must have a lot of questions and I am going to try to answer most of them today with some information about us and your role as a Volunteer.

The mission of the Volunteer & Community Outreach Department is to make sure you have the necessary resources to support NMFA.

Volunteer & Community Outreach Managers East Region- Ann Hamilton West Region- Liz Larsen VA/MD Region- Pikkwan Boston Your first resource is us! If you are in the VA/MD region, your Manager is Pikkwan and she offices in our Headquarters in Alexandria, Va. If you are in the East Region, Ann is your Manager and if you are in the West Region, I am your Manager! Ann and I are remote employees working from home. Hopefully by now, you know what region you are in! But in case you don’t …………

Here’s the map! The states, territories and countries that are colored green are in the West Region; the ones in red are in the East Region; and the blue shows the VA/MD Region. After you finish viewing this webinar, contact your manager to set up a time to talk about getting started!

VCO RESOURSES VCO Managers Recorded Webinars NMFA Website NMFA Volunteer Facebook page Quarterly Conference Calls Weekly Emails In the Getting Started conversation, you will learn how to stay informed through other recorded webinars like this one! And we also have scheduled Quarterly Conference calls on various topics where you can learn and ask questions. And we send out a weekly email called VCO in the Know with lots of great info! And you will also find a lot of training support on our Facebook page for our Volunteers!

YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES AS A NMFA VOLUNTEER! Now, let’s talk about what we expect from our Volunteers!! Your primary role as a Volunteer is to connect with your local military family community! Tell military families about all of the great information we have on our website, tell them about some of our programs like Military Spouse Scholarships, Operation Purple Camps, and Family Retreats.

We want to hear from you!! Hours Activities AND Issues and Concerns And your second responsibility is to communicate with us! Every month let us know what you have been up to! Report your volunteer hours spent on behalf of NMFA. Let us know what you did for the month and if you have been hearing about any concerns or know of something really positive happening in your area. Your feedback on the issues and concerns you hear from local military families helps us with our advocacy mission!

What’s Next???? So what is next? Make sure you contact your VCO Manager to schedule a Getting Started Chat. The two of you can talk about your community and ways you can engage, our training, how to report and also go over any questions you have.

Welcome to Our Volunteer Corps!
