Unions – 20 Points QUESTION: ANSWER: Under what conditions is a union created? ANSWER: It is created by signing a membership. It is necessary to have at least 50% or more workers in favour or if it is under 50% then there needs to be a vote where 50% or more employees vote in favour of creating a union.

Unions – 30 Points QUESTION: ANSWER: How much are union dues? Typically, they are 2-4% of an employee’s gross pay.

Unions – 40 Points QUESTION: ANSWER: Under what act are the rules for setting up and operating a union? ANSWER: The Trade Union Act

Unions – 50 Points QUESTION: ANSWER: What is the difference between a lock-out and a strike? What is their purpose? ANSWER: A lock-out is began by an employer who closed his place of work through suspension of work of employees in order to get employees to agree to their terms and conditions. A strike is started by employees as a group designed to restrict the amount of service to the employer under the employer reaches an agreement with the union. The purpose is to sign a contract for working terms and conditions.

Occupational Health & Safety – 10 Points QUESTION: What is an unusual danger in the workplace? ANSWER: Something that threatens workers or others including a danger that is not normal for the job, a danger that would normally stop work, or a situation that a worker is not properly trained, equipped or experienced for.

ANSWER: Develop and implement a harassment policy in the workplace Provide adequate training for all workers Ensure close supervision until workers have sufficient experience Put a first aid kit, WHMIS and emergency procedures in place

Occupational Health & Safety – 50 Points QUESTION: Explain how most refusals in the workplace are solved? ANSWER: Inform the employer that you are refusing work. Try to resolve the issue with the employer. The employee can be assigned to other work until the issue is resolved. If it cannot be solved, then the Occupational Health Committee co-chairs should be asked to help find a solution.
