Aims of Wendell Park 1. To maintain excellent standards of behaviour based on mutual trust and respect between adults and children with clear and consistent guidelines. 2. Our Curriculum Children’s learning will be centered around a topic each half term. Project – What’s in a Region? Science – Earth and Beyond
Our Curriculum – Maths Identify multiples and factor pairs of a number Use column addition accurately up to two decimal points. Compare and order increasingly large numbers Read and write numbers to 1,000,000 Discuss and apply methods to answer mental maths questions. Read and write Roman Numerals Using rounding to check answers and calculations
Our Curriculum – English Every half term, our English lessons will be centred around a scheme called the ‘Power of Reading’. This half term, the story we will be focusing on is ‘Varmints’. This is a thought provoking picture book. Children will be writing across a variety of genres, starting with diary entries. They will also take part in debates and take part in drama sessions.
Your child will need: P.E. kit (PE lessons are every Monday) Swimming kit (Turquoise on Mondays, Amber on Tuesdays) Full school uniform – only plain studs and no hoodies Book bag Please ensure all your child's belongings are clearly labelled.
Homework in Year 5 Homework will be sent home by your child's teacher on a Friday and is due back the following Wednesday. Reading books will be changed on a Monday or a Thursday as long as the reading record has been signed. If the reading record has not been signed, the books will not be changed. Homework should be completed independently, but adult support can be given if needed Homework should be completed to the best of your child’s ability Your child is expected to read for 15-20 minutes each day.
Supporting your child at home Read with your child regularly Talk about school and other interests every day Play a range of games together Always encourage and support your child with homework Help your child to have the correct uniform and equipment ready each evening
